The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is considered the foremost authority in gemology, both as a school and as a research laboratory. GIA created the current diamond grading scale and their lab reports are considered the most accurate in the world. Thomas E. Quinn II studied in residence at their world headquarters in Carlsbad, CA and holds their distinguished degrees of GG (Graduate Gemologist) and GJ (Graduate Jeweler) as well as certificates in Jewelry Design and Wax Carving.
The National Association of Jewelry Appraisers (NAJA) is a professional appraiser’s organization in which members agree to conform to a standard in writing appraisal reports and abide by a code of ethics. They are the only professional appraiser’s organization dedicated to the appraisal of gems and jewelry. NAJA offers certification of members through testing both written and practical. Thomas E. Quinn II is a CM (Certified Member) of NAJA and must complete continuing education every year to keep this designation. Certified members are also required to have their vision checked every five years for both color blindness and color recognition.
